Pigalle x Nike Fall 2019 collection and Converse collab
The FIBA Basketball World Cup was in Beijing this past week, and Nike and Pigalle chose to use that exciting atmosphere to unveil a brand new basketball court for the city. Stéphane Ashpool and three young members of the Pigalle team brought the famous Parisian Pigalle court concept to the Chinese capital.
This new court design made with 45,000 pairs of recycled Nike sneakers, and is 600 square meters. Thanks to the material from the sneakers, the court is not as hard as concrete, so players will be less prone to injurys.
Female players, player safety, and community building are of special importance to the court, so much so that court booking hours will favor female players and teams.
“Our court in Paris birthed a community,” Ashpool said. “We transformed a parking lot into a place that has fostered a family and inspired people. All the subtle details that can make this magic happen were united. It was the best learning for me, and now it’s the right time to work in expending this scheme, staying organic, authentic and focused.”
Pigalle’s Fall 2019 collection with Nike was also unveiled. the collections tagline “the power of sport to move the world forward,” means the collection is a reminder of the power of sports, and how sports can bring people together and help communities grow.
The collection also shows Ashpool’s love for the ’90s, including colors that are soothing to the eyes. All of the apparels colors were made to compliment the newly-built Pigalle basketball court, and can be worn on or off the court.
tTwo pairs of Converse Chuck 70’s will also join the collection. The Pigalle x Converse Chuck 70 feature colorful textured uppers, fuse film/canvas construction, and “the power of music to move the world forward” printed on the heel.
